I will confess right here that two years ago when we moved to our new homestead, I accidentally killed my sourdough starter. Gasp! I know, the horror! How could I do such a thing? It was caused by me forgetting to feed it often enough so I stuck it in the fridge thinking it would slow the fermenting process and I’d have to feed it less. Except for the fact that then I completely forgot about it and it died a slow, moldy death in the fridge. But alas, I was recently gifted a new sourdough starter to feed and care for everyday and I promise this time I won’t kill the poor thing! Now that I have a healthy new starter,

It has been a couple years since we’ve had a sourdough starter in our house and I’ve been trying to remember all my favorite sourdough recipes. Unfortunately I still can’t find a couple of my favorite cookbooks that were misplaced when we moved so I askedsome fellow bloggers to share their sourdough recipes. I also searched some of my favorite whole food blogs and rounded up even more sourdough recipes. So now we have over 70 sourdough recipes to enjoy making with our new starter!

If you’re interested in learning more about sourdough, the fermentation process and more recipes I highly recommend two books I’ve had in my collection for a couple years. The first is Wild Fermentation by Sandor Ellix Katz. This book is amazing because it also explains how to make a wide variety of other fermented foods. The other book is Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon. This book is quite thick and what I think of as the ultimate guide to traditional, healthy eating with a gazillion amazing recipes included.

When dealing with high hydration doughs, such as 70% and beyond, it's easier to dip your hands in water rather than flour to prevent sticking during kneading. But be aware that using a lot of water when you're kneading the dough will increase the hydration of the dough.
